What Is Anhydrous Ammonia? | Fertilizer Guide

Anhydrous ammonia (NH3) is a compressed liquid gas containing 82% nitrogen by weight — the highest nitrogen concentration of any fertilizer. It is injected directly into soil at 6–8 inches depth where it reacts with soil moisture and binds to soil particles. It is the lowest cost-per-pound nitrogen source but requires specialized pressurized equipment and OSHA hazmat training.
